Let’s Chat Law CIC (Companies House number: 14670271) (“Let’s Chat Law”, “we”, “us” or “our”) is a non-profit organisation that supports aspiring lawyers entering the legal industry. This privacy notice tells you how we, as the controller of your personal information, collect and process it.
This Website is not intended for anyone under the age of 18 and we do not knowingly collect data relating to persons under the age of 18.
Third-party links
This website may include links to third-party websites, plug-ins and applications. Clicking on those links or enabling those connections may allow third parties to collect or share data about you. We do not control these third-party websites and are not responsible for their privacy statements. When you leave our website, we encourage you to read the privacy policy of every website you visit.
What personal data do we collect?
We currently collect the following categories of personal data from you:
- Identity and contact data such as your full name, email address;
- Information you choose to share with us about yourself, such as your career goals, career stage, career interests, academic background, and past experiences;
- Usage data such as information about how you use our website and interact with our social media such as clicked links and content viewed;
- Marketing and communications preference data such as your preferences in receiving marketing communications from us.
We do not collect any Special Categories of Personal Data about you (this includes details about your race or ethnicity, religious or philosophical beliefs, sex life, sexual orientation, political opinions, trade union membership, information about your health, and genetic and biometric data). Nor do we collect any information about criminal convictions and offences.
We may share anonymised aggregate data with our current and/or potential partners or sponsors.
How do we collect your personal data?
We collect data from and about you when:
- you complete a form to subscribe to our mailing list, sign up to an event, enter a giveaway or competition; and
- you interact with our website. We collect your usage data by using cookies and other similar technologies. Please see our cookie policy [LINK] for further details.
Why and when do we use your personal data?
We will only use your personal data when the law allows us to. Most commonly, we will use your personal data in the following circumstances:
- To deliver our newsletter if you sign up to our mailing list;
- To register and communicate to you when you sign up to our online or in-person events;
- To enable you to participate in a competition or giveaway;
- To monitor, provide and improve our events, website and social media platforms; and
- To administer and protect our organisation and this website (including troubleshooting, data analysis, testing, system maintenance, support, reporting and hosting of data).
The lawful bases we rely on for processing your personal data are:
- For direct marketing purposes, your consent;
- For administering and protection our organisation, where it is necessary to comply with a legal obligation (if applicable); and
- For all other purposes, we have a legitimate interest, such as to develop our events/services and grow our organisation.
Marketing
We strive to provide you with choices regarding certain personal data uses, particularly around marketing and advertising. You can manage your marketing preference settings via Flodesk by clicking the ‘Manage Preferences’ link at the bottom of our marketing communications from us.
We will get your express opt-in consent before we share your personal data with any third party for marketing purposes.

Who do we share your personal data with?
We may share your personal data with the parties set out below for the purposes set out in the table above.
- Flodesk, Inc.; and
- Google Ireland Limited
We require all third parties to respect the security of your personal data and to treat it in accordance with the law. We do not allow our third-party service providers to use your personal data for their own purposes and only permit them to process your personal data for specified purposes and in accordance with our instructions.
What Happens If You Fail To Provide Your Personal Data?
Where we need to collect your personal data for direct marketing purposes, and you fail to provide that data when requested, we may not be able to deliver the goods/services to you (for example, to enable you to attend our events or participate in a giveaway). In this case, we may have to cancel the goods/services you have with us but we will notify you if this is the case at the time.
What about international transfers?
We transfer your personal data outside the EEA. Some of our external third parties are based outside the UK so their processing of your personal data will involve a transfer of data outside the UK.
Whenever we transfer your personal data out of the UK, we ensure a similar degree of protection is afforded to it by ensuring at least one of the following safeguards is implemented:

How long do we retain personal data?
We will only retain your personal data for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for. In some circumstances we will anonymise your personal data (so that it can no longer be associated with you) for research or statistical purposes, in which case we may use this information indefinitely without further notice to you.
What are my rights?
Under certain circumstances, you have rights under data protection laws in relation to your personal data.
- The right to access, update or delete the information we have on you.
- The right of rectification. You have the right to have your information rectified if that information is inaccurate or incomplete.
- The right to object. You have the right to object to our processing of your Personal Data.
- The right of restriction. You have the right to request that we restrict the processing of your personal information.
- The right to data portability. You have the right to be provided with a copy of the information we have on you in a structured, machine-readable and commonly used format.
- The right to withdraw consent. You also have the right to withdraw your consent at any time where Let’s Chat Law relies on your consent to process your personal information.

You will not have to pay a fee to access your personal data (or to exercise any of the other rights). However, we may charge a reasonable fee if your request is clearly unfounded, repetitive or excessive.
